Artist’s Reflection:
“Come Together is about the strange and beautiful tension between individuality and belonging.
We spend so much of our lives learning how to fit. How to soften our edges, straighten ourselves out, take up the appropriate amount of space. We’re taught to look for sameness as evidence that we belong.
But nature doesn’t work that way.
Nothing in a forest is trying to become the tree beside it. No two stones are shaped quite the same. Diversity isn’t a disruption of the natural order. It is the natural order.
These figures stand together without becoming alike. Different shapes, different postures, different ways of occupying space. None needs to change in order to become part of the whole.
Maybe community was never supposed to be about fitting in.
Maybe it’s simply about finding enough room to stand beside one another exactly as we are.
