Artist’s Reflection:

"The Labels We Wear began with a question I couldn't shake: how much of who we are is truly ours, and how much is something we were simply handed?

Each label carries weight, a name, a role, a belief, a wound, a title we didn't choose but learned to answer to. Over time, these labels can start to feel like the truth of who we are, rather than something worn on top of it.

This painting sits with that tension. It doesn't ask us to discard our labels entirely, but to notice them, to hold them a little more loosely, and to ask what remains underneath when we do.

I hope this piece invites a moment of quiet recognition. Beneath every label we wear, and every label we place on others, there is a shared humanity that no title can fully contain. Perhaps freedom begins not in having no labels at all, but in remembering we were always more than any one of them."

This original 12" × 16" painting is sealed with a protective matte varnish and presented in handcrafted Belizean hardwood and ready to hang.
